A freak own goal of Al Shamal in stoppage time (90+2 minute) saw Al Shahania escape with a 1-0 win in a Play-Off match and reach the quarterfinals of 2025-2026 season QSL Cup at the Hamad Bin Khalifa Stadium of Al Ahli club on Tuesday.

With both sides locked goalless and battling hard, a long attempt by Al Shahania’s Yousef Raisi was punched into the air by Al Shamal’s Oumar Barry, but the ball went straight up and while on its return was pushed out again by the goalkeeper. However, the ball hit the top of the right post and ricocheted to fall back inside the goal, giving Al Shahania a crucial victory.

Towards the end, it was Al Shamal who were testing the rival defence but in stoppage time Al Shahania seized their chance and unfortunately Barry was left to rue his and the team’s exit from the tournament.
