Reigning champions Al Sadd take on Al Duhail in the final of Qatar Cup on Thursday, April 6, 2023. The kick-off is at 22:00 at the Al Sadd Stadium.
That both teams will fight it out in the summit clash to win The Glorious Cup is a foregone conclusion.
Al Sadd progressed to the final by defeating Al Arabi 3-1, while Al Duhail reached the title clash after beating Al Wakrah 2-1 in the semifinals.
Al Sadd and Al Duhail faced off two times so far this season. Their first-leg match in the QNB Stars League ended in a 2-2 draw, whereas Al Duhail won by a 3-1 margin in the Ooredoo Cup semifinal.
Both teams are in good form of late. Al Sadd defeated Al Wakrah 4-2 and Al Duhail beat Al Sailiya 3-1 in Week 18 of the QNB Stars League, to be on 35 points (third place) and 42 points (first position) respectively.
Both sides include a number of top players who can make the difference.
Al Sadd bet mainly on Baghdad Bounedjah, Akram Afif, Santi Cazorla, Hassan Al Haydous and Ayoub El Kaabi, while Al Duhail have the likes of Michael Olunga, Almoez Ali, Ismail Mohammed, Nam Tae-Hee and Ferjani Sassi.
The tactical battle between coaches Juan Manuel Lillo (Juanma) of Al Sadd and Hernan Crespo of Al Duhail will be the sub-plot of the high-profile encounter.
Al Sadd are looking to continue their good record in the Qatar Cup, which they won in 2017, 2020 and 2021, since the tournament was relaunched under its new name in 2014.
On the other hand, Al Duhail won the Qatar Cup in 2015 and 2018.
The big question doing the rounds in football circles is ‘Who will have the last laugh in the eighth edition of Qatar Cup?’
