The 2020-21 season QNB Stars League’s Week 2 matches will be played on Monday, 7th September, and Tuesday, 8th September, with three games on each day. The newly-constructed Education City Stadium, Al Gharafa Stadium and Al Ahli Stadium will continue to be the venues. There will be simultaneous kick-offs on both days.
The Week 2 fixtures are Al Sailiya vs Al Sadd (18:15, Education City Stadium), Al Kharaitiyat vs Qatar SC (18:15, Al Gharafa Stadium), Al Gharafa vs Al Rayyan (20:30, Al Gharafa Stadium) on Monday, Al Wakrah vs Al Duhail (18:15, Education City Stadium), Umm Salal vs Al Khor (18:15, Al Ahli Stadium) and Al Ahli vs Al Arabi (20:30, Al Ahli Stadium) on Tuesday.
The Week 1 action, held on 3rd and 4th September, witnessed keen contests. Two of the six matches ended in draws, while a total of 20 goals were scored. All teams settled into their stride straightaway even though there was not much gap between the two seasons. Games will continue to have a limited number of spectators at the stadiums as precautionary measures against coronavirus (Covid-19) are in place.
Many teams featured new signings, and the existing and new stars (overseas as well as national professionals alike) displayed their mettle in abundance.
Al Sailiya, who held last season’s runners-up Al Rayyan to a creditable 1-1 draw in the opening round, are up against formidable Al Sadd, who beat promoted Al Kharaitiyat by a 5-1 margin.
Al Kharaitiyat and Qatar SC both will desperately look for victory when they face off, while Al Gharafa, who beat Qatar SC 2-0 in Week 1, will be upbeat when they run into Al Rayyan in the week’s marquee clash.
Al Wakrah, who lost 1-2 to Al Ahli in their campaign opener, have an uphill task when they face reigning champions Al Duhail, who blanked Umm Salal 3-0.
Umm Salal meet Al Khor, who pulled off a last-gasp 2-2 draw with Al Arabi.
The last fixture, featuring Al Ahli and Al Arabi, will create much interest among their large, passionate supporters, as much as it will be fought fiercely on the pitch.
