Abdulla Marafie is one of the main players of Al Arabi. He has a vital role to play when they host Al Rayyan in Week 5 of the QNB Stars League on Friday, 17th September.

In an exclusive interview with QSL Online ahead of the big showdown, Marafie speaks about a variety of topics.

How do you see the big confrontation against Al Rayyan in the league?

This game is always strong and different, because both teams have a large fan base that gives players extra motivation to bring out their best.

To what extent Al Arabi can continue with victories?

We play with high team spirit and that has contributed to our victories. While facing strong teams, that helps us a lot on the pitch.

What’re your expectations of this game?

A tough and strong game, each team wishes to win full points. I hope football will be the winner and fans will thoroughly enjoy it. We must reflect a positive image of Qatar football.

What do you promise your fans?

We promise our fans that we will play with a high spirit and never give up. We will possibly put up a far better showing than in the previous games.

We need their support and encouragement, The team is going through difficult circumstances and we all have to be together.

What is your message to Al Arabi supporters?

We, players, are determined to put up our best performance for our supporters because they are a priority for us. They give us energy and strength, and their presence is the greatest motivation.

Can Al Arabi put an end to the superiority that Al Rayyan have been enjoying in the previous seasons?

In football, things can go either way. The team that makes less mistakes and stay more focused on the field can get full points. I hope we collect three points from this game.

Who is the Al Rayyan player who has caught your imagination?

Al Rayyan do not depend on one player. They play as a team. I wish we prevent them from playing as a well-knit unit and thus gain advantage over them.

How did you feel after losing big-time to Al Sadd?

After our demoralising loss to Al Sadd, we all decided to put in more efforts. The meeting we had with club patron Dr Abdulla Al Mal had a positive impact on our mentality.

Have you completely recovered from that defeat?

Of course, we have. But it is hard to forget it because it was a heartbreak for the players and fans alike.

How do you see the competition in this season’s QNB Stars League?

Any player would like to stand on the podium with his team. Competition is sure to be fierce this season as well.

Do you think Al Arabi are strong contenders for the title this season?

The team needs a lot of work to become title contenders, but it is possible that we will finish among the top four.

What is your ambition with Al Arabi this season?

My personal ambition is to win all titles this season and celebrate with our fans after winning the prestigious Emir’s Cup.
