Qatar SC defeated Al Arabi 3-2 in Round 8 (Group B) of the 2021-2022 season Ooredoo Cup at the Al Khor Stadium on Wednesday.
Sebastian Soria (27th and 39th minutes) and Khaled Mansour (69th minute) scored for Qatar SC.
Aron Gunnarsson (fourth minute) and substitute Aaron Boupendza (73rd minute) scored for Al Arabi.
Qatar SC raised their points tally to 10, while Al Arabi remained on nine points.
The match started off with Al Arabi’s surge and they got rewarded for that. Gunnarsson was assisted in the scoring act by Abdullah Al Muraisi and the former found the mark with a shot from outside the box.
Gunnarsson was at it again in the 10th minute, but could not be successful this time.
Qatar SC gradually got the grip on the game and they equalized through Soria, who spearheaded their attacks.
Al Arabi almost scored again the next minute off a counter-attack, but Ibrahim Kalla was denied a second attempt at the goal after Qatar SC defender Mohammed Salem cleared the rebound from goalkeeper Motasem Majed to safety before Ibrahim Kalla could catch hold of the ball.
Meanwhile, Soria scored again with a long-range, angular shot at a moment when the Al Arabi defence fell flat for a second time.
Al Arabi took the field in the second half by making three substitutions, the prominent among them being that of Boupendza replacing Gunnarsson, in a bid to make inroads into the rival area.
The Al Arabi goal had a close call in the 58th minute as a couple of consecutive attempts by the rivals went waste.
As the game wore on, Qatar SC enjoyed an upper hand and they made it 3-1 around 70 minutes through Khaled.
Al Arabi got a consolation goal not before long as Boupendza found the mark following his brilliant work.
