Al Shamal and Al Ahli played a 2-2 draw on Monday in Round 6 (Group A) of the 2021-2022 season Ooredoo Cup match at Al Khor Stadium.
After the draw, third-placed Al Ahli have an overall tally of 6 points while fourth-placed Al Shamal advance to 5 points.
Al Ahli’s player Patrick Eze scored a brace (22nd and 30th minutes) while Al Shamal’s goals were scored by Majed Muhammad (36th minute) and substitute Syed Ahmed (90th minute).
The match kicked off on a positive note as both sides exchanged attacks in the first few minutes. Al Ahli, however, were the first to take the lead in the 22nd minute of the first half when Eze found the net with ease.
Al Ahli maintained their attacking mode until Eze succeeded in adding the second goal for his team at the half-hour mark.
Al Shamal wasted little time in reducing the deficit in the 36th minute when Mohamed scored. Both teams walked off the pitch with Al Ahli holding a slender 2-1 lead.
In the second half, Al Shamal pressed hard in search of an equalizer. In the 51st minute, Al Shama’s Nasser Al Nasr’s shot went agonizingly close to a goalpost of Al Ahli.
The coaches of the two teams made several substitutions in order to increase the effectiveness in the second half.
As the match entered the last 10 minutes, Al Shamal team pressed ahead with full force. Substitute Ahmed emerged as the hero as he scored the equalizer for Al Shamal in the 90th minute.
