Al Khor on Sunday defeated Qatar SC 2-0 in Round 6 (Group B) of the 2021-2022 season Ooredoo Cup match at Al Khor Stadium.
Al Khor now have a tally of 8 points while Qatar SC remain at 4 points. Fetfatzidid Ioannis (67th minute) and Nayef Al-Buraiki (89th minute) scored the two goals for Al Khor.
Qatar SC fielded a strong side coached by Moroccan Youssef Safri. Al Khor, on the other hand, managed to grab the three points to march on in Group B.
The match started on a cautious note from both sides. After a few hits and misses, Qatar SC began to stitch attacks on the Al Khor goal but keeper Baba Jibril stayed firm. In one instance, Baba saved his team from a dangerous attack in the 12th minute. The game gradually calmed down in the following minutes after the strong and exciting start as play was confined to the midfield area.
In the 25th minute, Brazilian Kayke Rodrigues of Al Khor nearly pulled off a goal but his shot missed a goalpost. In the second half, Qatar SC took the initiative to attack the Al Khor goal, which played on fast counterattacks, taking advantage of the speed of the Greek star Ioannis and the Rodrigues in the attack.
In the 59th minute, Qatar SC almost advanced from a corner kick, which Martinez met with a strong header, but Al Khor goalkeeper blocked the move. In the 67th minute, Al Khor scored the first goal through Ioannis from a ball he received inside the penalty area and flicked it directly into the net. Al Khor scored the second goal through Al-Buraiki (89th minute) to seal a convincing win.
