QNB Stars League champions Al Sadd defeated Al Faisaly of Saudi Arabia 1-0 in the sixth and final round of 2022 AFC Champions League Group E at the Prince Mohamed bin Fahd Stadium in Dammam on Wednesday.

Defender Pedro Miguel (45+2) scored the all-important goal as Al Sadd ended their campaign with seven points in third place.

Al Faisaly finished with nine points.

Uzbekistan’s Nasaf and Al Wehdat of Jordan were the other teams in the group.

Going into the game, Al Sadd were out of contention for the knockout Round of 16 following their 1-3 loss to Nasaf in the fifth round.

Al Sadd had drawn 1-1 with Nasaf in their opener and then lost 1-2 to Al Faisaly in the second round.

The Wolves beat Al Wehdat 5-2 in the third round, but lost 1-3 to the same opponents in the back-to-back match.

Despite being out of reckoning for the next stage, Al Sadd did well against Al Faisaly. The Wolves held on to their slender first-half lead after resumption to emerge as the winners.

The top team from each group qualify for the Round of 16 along with the three best second-placed teams from the five West Asia groups.
