Qatar’s Al Duhail will look to do an encore when they take on the UAE’s Sharjah in a reverse fixture (Group C) in Round 4 of the 2020 AFC Champions League on Friday, 18th September. The kick-off is at 18:00.
All Group C matches are being played at the Education City Stadium. Khalifa International Stadium (Group A), Al Janoub Stadium (Group B) and Al Sadd Stadium (Group D) are the other venues as the tournament resumed with all West Zone matches on the continent being scheduled in Doha from 14th September to 3rd October.
Al Duhail had beaten Sharjah 2-1 in Round 3 on 15th September, with goals from Almoez Ali and Ramin Rezaeian. Igor Coronado pulled one back for Sharjah.
Al Duhail are second in the group behind Al Taawoun, who also have six points but are placed ahead on goal difference. The Saudi Arabian side has a goal difference of +2 as against The Red Knights’ +1.
Iran’s Persepolis (four points) and Sharjah (one point) are third and fourth respectively.
Al Duhail had beaten Persepolis 2-0 in Doha in their opener on 11th February, but lost 0-2 to Al Taawoun in Jeddah on 18th February before the tournament was halted due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Al Duhail will be keen to take advantage of their own strengths and exploit Sharjah’s weaknesses as they seek a repeat victory. The likely return of influential midfielder Karim Boudiaf from an injury layoff should boost the chances of Moroccan Walid Regragui’s wards.
