17:00 kick-off at Al Duhail Stadium
Al Wakrah face Al Gharafa in Week 21 of the 2020-21 season QNB Stars League. The kick-off is at 17:00 at the Al Duhail Stadium on Tuesday, 16th March, 2021.
Week 21 matches have been scheduled for 6th April, but this game was rescheduled in view of Al Gharafa’s play-off with Uzbekistan’s FC AGMK in Doha on 7th April, 2021, for a berth in the 2021 AFC Champions League group stage.
Three Qatari clubs (Al Duhail, Al Rayyan and Al Sadd who finished in that order in the 2019-20 season QNB Stars League final standings), will play in the West Asia group stage of tournament proper, while fourth-placed Al Gharafa had to go into play-off for a place in the main draw. The winner will join Group A featuring Al Hilal of Saudi Arabia, Shabab Al Ahli of the UAE and FC Istiklol of Tajikistan.
Al Wakrah, coached by Marquez Lopez, did well in Week 19 by holding newly-crowned QNB Stars League champions Al Sadd to a 1-1 draw.
The Blue Wave are currently placed ninth in the standings with 19 points (five victories, four draws and 10 defeats). Their goal difference is -14 (15 goals for and 29 against).
Al Gharafa, who slipped from fourth to fifth position following their 1-3 loss to Al Ahli in Week 19, will be keen to storm back into the top-four bracket.
The Cheetahs, under Slavisa Jokanovic, have 30 points (nine wins, three draws and seven defeats) and have a goal difference of +7 (36 goals for and 29 against).
Both teams have standout players in their ranks and that should make it a spicy contest.
Al Gharafa had beaten Al Wakrah 1-0 in the first leg of 2020-21 season QNB Stars League.
