Umm Salal beat Al Rayyan 3-2 in Week 20 of the 2020-21 season QNB Stars League at the Qatar SC Stadium on Saturday.

Ahmed Hammoudan (18th minute) and captain Lawrence Quaye (45th minute) scored the goals for Umm Salal in the first half, with Kayke Rodrigues (72nd) adding another in the second session.

Substitutes Mowafak Awad (87th minute) and Ali Ferydoon (90+3) scored for Al Rayyan.

Umm Salal’s Ibrahim Elsadig was sent off in the 74th minute.

Umm Salal moved on to 18 points with the victory while Al Rayyan stayed on 34 points.

Both teams had played out a 1-1 draw in the first leg of 2020-21 QNB Stars League.

Umm Salal started on a positive note, creating gaps to attack Al Rayyan and not let them take early control of the match. In the first 10 minutes, The Orange Fortress had already made several attacks.

Al Rayyan made first shot on target in the 15th minute when Abdulrahman Al Harazi attempted to score after receiving a cross from Mohammed Alaaeldin, but Umm Salal keeper Baba Malick comfortably picked the ball.

Three minutes later, Hammoudan volleyed a corner kick from close range to stun Al Rayyan, giving Umm Salal the lead.

The Lions, seeking a leveller, made several attacks including a hit from a distance by captain Yacine Brahimi that just sailed over the crossbar.

Umm Salal were responding well with counterattacks and could have got their second goal 10 minutes before half-time, but Ismail Mahmoud missed a chance after receiving a superb pass from Kayke Rodrigues.

Kayke gave another scare to Al Rayyan as he stormed into the box dodging two defenders, but he failed to beat Al Rayyan keeper Saoud Al Hajri with his hit.

However, Umm Salal succeeded in taking a 2-0 lead just before the break after a defensive error as Al Rayyan’s Dami Traori failed to clear a free-kick inside the box, with Quaye availing of the opportunity to score Umm Salal’s second goal. The captain struck a left-footed kick that just escaped Al Hajri’s left hand.

Al Rayyan started the second half aggressively, but Umm Salal were not giving gaps to the rivals, while looking for counterattacks. Quaya got a tough chance to score his second goal in the 50th minute, but this time he was well-blocked by the defenders.

Kayke made another brilliant attempt five minutes later, but his lofty hit struck the right goalpost before he finally scored a goal with a header from Mohammed Terazor’s pass.

Elsadig was sent off after receiving his second yellow card for a rash tackle on Alaaeldin.

Yohan Boli’s attempt for a goal hit the crossbar, but Awad, who came off the bench in the 78th minute, was on target on a rebound following a free-kick three minutes before time.

Another substitute Ferydoon struck a goal in stoppage time, but it was too late for Al Rayyan as Umm Salal walked away with a much-deserved victory.
