The 2020-21 season QNB Stars League’s Week 18, where a total of 15 goals were scored, witnessed the crowning of Al Sadd as new champions on their home turf on Sunday, 7th March.
With four rounds remaining to be played, Al Sadd deservedly won the league title, their 15th overall, after exhibiting an outstanding level right throughout the season in terms of results and statistics that confirmed their excellence and superiority.
Al Sadd beat Umm Salal 3-0 to remain as the only unbeaten team in the league so far. The Wolves became champions with 50 points (16 victories and two draws) after taking an unassailable lead. They have a goal difference of +57 (69 goals for and 12 against), the most by any team.
Umm Salal remained on 15 points and fell from ninth to 10th spot.
Al Duhail beat Al Kharaitiyat 2-0 to move to 37 points in the second place.
Al Kharaitiyat’s woes further compounded as they were rooted to the bottom of the table with six points.
Al Gharafa beat Al Khor 3-1 to climb from fifth to fourth position with 30 points. Al Khor remained on 14 points and in the 11th position after suffering their 10th defeat.
Al Rayyan got the better of Al Ahli by a 3-1 margin and climbed from fourth to third place with 31 points.
The result saw Al Ahli slip one place to seventh as they stood on 26 points.
Al Arabi defeated Qatar SC 1-0 and improved their position from seventh to sixth with 26 points.
Qatar SC slipped from third to fifth spot in the table.
Al Wakrah too bettered their position from 10th to ninth with 18 points following their 1-0 win over Al Sailiya.
Despite the defeat and remaining on 23 points, Al Sailiya kept the eight place in the standings.
The 2020-21 season QNB Stars League’s Week 19 matches will be played on Thursday, 11th March, and Friday, 12th March, with three games on each day.
