The 2020-21 season QNB Stars League’s Week 13 action, held on Thursday and Friday (7th and 8th January, 2021), witnessed excitement galore, where a total of 26 goals were scored over six matches, all of which ended in victories.
The results were:
Al Sadd beat Al Sailiya 8-0
Al Rayyan beat Al Gharafa 2-1
Qatar SC beat Al Kharaitiyat 3-1
Al Duhail beat Al Wakrah 8-1
Umm Salal beat Al Khor 1-0
Al Arabi beat Al Ahli 1-0
Leaders Al Sadd continued their supremacy by extending their unbeaten streak as they defeated Al Sailiya 8-0. The Wolves now have 35 points after they registered their 11th victory.
Algerian spearhead Baghdad Bounedjah led the rout with four goals. Nam Tae-Hee (double), Ali Asad and Santiago Cazorla also contributed to Al Sadd’s big victory.
Al Sailiya remained on 15 points and in eighth place.
Reigning champions Al Duhail too made it big by recording an 8-1 win over Al Wakrah.
Paulo Edmilson Junior (four goals), Eduardo Rodriguez (Dudu) (three goals) and Almoez Ali were on target for The Red Knights, who moved on to 27 points and stood in second place with their ninth victory.
Al Wakrah slipped from ninth to 10th position with 13 points.
Al Rayyan defeated Al Gharafa 2-1 in a match involving two powerhouses and traditionally big clubs in Qatar football.
Abdulaziz Hatem scored both goals for Al Rayyan, while Jonathan Kodjia was on target for Al Gharafa.
Despite the win, Al Rayyan stood in sixth place with 19 points, whereas Al Gharafa slipped from third to fourth spot with 23 points.
Qatar SC got back to winning ways as they defeated Al Kharaitiyat 3-1. An own goal by Al Kharaitiyat’s Mohammed Salam, a superb strike by Youcef Belaili and a neat effort by Hamed Ismail sealed The Kings’ fighting win following two drawn encounters.
Evans Mensah reduced the deficit for Al Kharaitiyat, who played under new coach Wesam Rizik .
Qatar SC climbed from fifth to third place with 23 points. Even though they have the same number of points as Al Gharafa, Qatar SC were placed above on better goal difference.
Al Kharaitiyat remained as the basement side with six points.
Al Arabi defeated Al Ahli 1-0, with Mohammed Salah El Neel netting the winner.
Al Arabi remained in seventh place with 18 points and Al Ahli slipped from fourth to fifth spot with 22 points.
Umm Salal improved from 10th to ninth place with 13 points following their 1-0 defeat of Al Khor, who stood 11th with seven points. Kayke Rodriguez scored the all-important goal.
