Al Wakrah defeated Al Khor 2-1 in Round 2 (Group A) of the 2020-21 season Ooredoo Cup at the Al Arabi Stadium on Tuesday.
Al Khor took the lead through Ahmed Hassan Al Mohannadi in the 26th minute, while Cristian Ceballos (38th minute) and Mohamed Benyettou (47th minute) scored for Al Wakrah.
Possession was almost even, but Al Wakrah had the last laugh as they rallied from the deficit to script an important victory. The Blue Wave had played out a 1-1 draw with Qatar SC in the opening round.
The result was a blow to Al Khor, who had beaten Al Sailiya 5-1 in Round 1 of 2020-21 Ooredoo Cup.
Al Wakrah now have four points, while Al Khor stood on three.
Ahmed Hassan found the target off a pass from Anas Ahmed.
Ceballos helped Al Wakrah draw parity with help from Murad Naji as the teams took the breather with the score tied 1-1.
Soon after resumption, Benyettou, one of the top scorers in the 2019-20 QNB Stars League, found the target, with Omar Ali giving the assist.
Al Khor had a good chance to equalise in the 80th minute, but substitute Hamad Al Mohannadi’s header flew over the bar.
