In line with the joint work and continuous co-ordination with clubs and national teams as well as all stakeholders with transparency to adapt to changes based on developments during the current exceptional season, and follow-up on the latest challenges and developments related to fighting the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic, and also the possibility of making an amendment to the current season calendar due to the 2022 AFC Champions League, the Qatar Stars League (QSL) held a co-ordination meeting – via video communication technology – with coaches and officials of QNB Stars League clubs, on Saturday, 1st January, 2022.
The meeting was attended by Mr. Ahmed Khellil Abbassi, Executive Director of Competition and Football Development at the QSL, and Mr. Talal Al Kaabi, Executive Director of National Teams Department at the Qatar Football Association (QFA).
During the meeting, a number of topics were discussed, most notably:
- The calendar for the current season (2021-2022), and joint work for all in view of dealing with changes, including the plan to prepare the national team, the 2022 AFC Champions League and the expectation for the Asian Football Confederation to announce an amendment to the format and calendar of the competition. Against this backdrop, the calendar for the current season will be revised within the framework, given that this season leads up to the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 in addition to the national team’s preparation plan.
- Discussing the present conditions and precautionary measures to confront the coronavirus pandemic, and the circular regarding the match postponement application process, which was issued by the QFA. And also regarding the QSL’s request to postpone matches taking into account that a number of players are infected with the Covid-19.
It was emphasized that this stage requires flexibility in terms of changes that occur based on the latest developments and this requires co-operation from all parties.
