Al Arabi coach Heimir Hallgrimsson spoke to the media ahead of their 2020-21 season QNB Stars League Week 22 match against Al Sailiya.
“There are many reasons behind losing the last match, including lack of motivation and fatigue as a result of losing the opportunity to compete for a top-four position.
“Al Kharaitiyat presented a good match and we were to blame for that. We are not satisfied with our performance. That was not the performance of Al Arabi that we know and we have to correct this in the Al Sailiya match.
“We will not play just to ensure a position, but for the sake of development and we cannot stop playing now because it is the last match in the league this season.
“The QFA Cup that will be held soon will be good, during which we will be able to engage some young players and give them a chance to show what they can do, especially since some players will fight to stay in the club. So it is an opportunity to give them a chance to play and show what they have,” said Hallgrimsson.
Al Arabi player Mohammed Essam said, “The loss to Al Kharaitiyat will not overshadow our performance against Al Sailiya as the players seek to end the season in the best possible way.
“The Al Kharaitiyat chapter is over and our focus presently is on the match against Al Sailiya. We seek to achieve a morale booster as well with victory against Al Sailiya.
“After losing the opportunity to be among the top four, we, the player, were frustrated and that indirectly affected the outcome against Al Kharaitiyat. We were not out usual selves, but we will work to correct the mistakes we made.”
