Tactically Savvy Lamouchi outfoxes Fossati.
Round 23 of the QSL ended with a titanic battle between El Jaish and Al Rayyan. The tie didn’t disappoint with El Jaish running out 2-1 winners with a moment of magic from Brazilian attacker Romarinho.
Importantly, it seemed that Sabri Lamouchi tactically outplayed Jorge Fossati in what could have ramifications for the domestic cup competitions in Qatar. Simply put, Jaish out ran Al Rayyan in the centre of the park, defended well and relied on the pace and hold up play of Romarinho and Abderrazak Hamdallah.
Jaish’s midfield duo of Ahmed Moein & Othman Al-Yahri where constantly on the move, disrupting Al Rayyan’s attacking moves. Their pace and ball movement helped Jaish break quickly creating plenty of chances. This tactic paid dividends when Abderrazak Hamdallah’s deft flick and Romarinho’s run and finish consigned Al Rayyan to only their second defeat of the season.
Qatar Cup Places all but confirmed.
Al Sadd’s last gasp 3-2 victory over Lekhwiya means that Jesaldo Ferreria’s side leap frogged their rivals into third spot in the QSL standings. More importantly, there is now a five point gap between fourth placed Lekhwiya and fifth placed Umm Salal.
The Red Knights only need to win their round 24 clash against relegation threatened Al Wakrah to confirm the Qatar Cup places this season. Djamel Belmadi’s side will be looking to register back to back Qatar Cup wins in the third edition of the traditional end of season tournament for the Qatar Stars League.
Al Ahli finding form
Al Ahli won local bragging rights on Friday evening with a 3-1 victory over Al Arabi in a feisty derby clash. Goals from Mouchine Iajour, Firmin Mubele and Meshal Abdullah’s 100th QSL goal ensured a comfortable evening for Yusef Adam’s side.
Ahli are now in ninth place in the QSL, six points away from the relegation zone. Back to back wins have pulled the Brigadeers away from danger zone. Now with safety pretty much assured Yusef Adam will now rally his troops for the Emir Cup competition.
Big Injuries for Al Kharitiyat
Relegation threatened Al Kharitiyat could be without some key personnel for the last three games of the season. Amir Osim’s side will be hoping that the injuries suffered Hassan Fattah, Vivien Aquasy and Al Mahdi Lekhmasi in their 1-1 draw with Al Gharafa are not too serious.
The injury of Hassan Fattah will be the biggest concern of Al Kharitiyat, with the Jordanian stiker seen as one of his side’s main goal threats. Amir Osim will now train his squad during the international break, before they take on Al Khor in what is set to be a relegation showdown in round 24.
New QSL sides confirmed for season 2016/2015.
Qatar Gas league sides Al Shahania and Muithar will be turning out in the QSL for the new 2016/2017 season. For both sides it will be their second ever appearance in the top league of Qatari football.
However they will not be looking for a repeat of getting relegated. Al Shahania finished 13th in the 2014/2015 season and Muithar finished last in the 2013/2014 season. The pressure will be on for both sides to preform, especially as recently promoted Al Rayyan swept to the QSL title this season.
