Al Sadd coach Xavi Hernandez and player Baghdad Bounedjah spoke to the media ahead of their 2020-21 Qatar Cup semifinal against Al Rayyan.
“Al Sadd are going through very special moments in the league and considering our top position in the table, we’re close to winning the title by providing strong performances and presenting very distinct levels. We want to win all tournaments this season and if we play at the same level as we’ve done in the league, it’ll be difficult to beat Al Sadd in the 2021 Qatar Cup semifinal. But we must show humility because Al Rayyan have developed a lot under coach Laurent Blanc.
“The match won’t be easy and I see it as a final before the actual final. Qatar Cup matches are always different from the league. I’m very proud of our distinguished teamwork this season and I’m always keen on motivating the players to constantly present their best because relaxation is the best way to lose form or fitness.
“Baghdad Bounedjah, for example, is doing an amazing job and he’s one of the best attackers in Asia, not only in Qatar. He attacks, passes, defends as well and enjoys the game. He has scored 18 goals this season and he always works with humility.
“Though the players are working for the team and we’re on the right path, the truth is that I’m very lucky to have these players. Such players give the coach an opportunity to push them more. The Qatar league isn’t easy at all. Our ambition is to win the AFC Champions League, but there is Amir Cup and Qatar Cup before that and we’ll fight to win all of them,” said Xavi.
Al Rayyan a strong team, but our goal is to win Qatar Cup: Al Sadd player Bounedjah
Al Sadd player Bounedjah said, “Al Rayyan are a strong team, but our goal is to win the 2021 Qatar Cup. Al Rayyan team includes high-level players. The Qatar Cup matches always have surprises as was evident from our game against Al Arabi in the 2019-20 season Amir Cup final, where many had expected Al Sadd to win by a big margin, but it turned out to be a very difficult match.
“We hope to be crowned champions in the league and dedicate it to our fans. I’m always working for the team and trying to win. I try to score goals because this is my role as a striker in the team. My constant focus is with the team and the group and I’ve a challenge with the rest of my colleagues in order to win as many titles as possible. Our coach gives confidence to all players and makes them enter all matches with victory in mind,”
