Al Khor coach Winfried Schafer spoke to the media ahead of their 2020-21 season QNB Stars League Week 22 match against Al Rayyan.

“Before coming to Qatar I saw the Al Khor team had to do a lot of work until we got to this stage. We played a good match against Al Duhail in the previous round but we could not escape the decider. All of our focus now is on the deciding match in which we must give our best. We have prepared well for it.

“I am very happy to be at this old club and my work with the management of Al Khor is great. I wish we would be in a better position than we are. There are no talks yet about renewing my contract. Like I said, we are focusing all our attention on the playoff game.

“Al Rayyan are a good team but this match will prepare us for the play-off match. So we will see what appropriate formation we need for this match,” said Schafer.

Al Khor player Mohammed Al Jabri said, “We have exhausted our chances to avoid relegation from the decider. We have an excellent group of players and they have not fallen short in any way, but we have been unlucky.

“We have been unlucky for a long period of time. This loss of form is one of the main reasons for the current situation and we had two great matches against Al Wakrah and Al Duhail. Now we will play Al Rayyan. We must win this match which will prepare us for the playoff match. 

“I would like to thank all my fellow players who gave their all and so far we have the opportunity to stay in the QNB Stars League through the playoff match in which we will play with all our might for survival.”
