QSL Cup Semifinal Report — Al Gharafa 1 Umm Salal 0
Al Gharafa reached the QSL Cup final after defeating Umm Salal 1-0 in the first semifinal played at the Al Wakrah Stadium on Saturday.
Al Gharafa managed to seal the game late in the 80th minute, thanks to the goal by Monqeth Mohamed.
The game witnessed a cautious start from both sides due to their keen desire to reach the final. Al Gharafa controlled the game, while Umm Salal relied on fast counter-attacks.
Scoring opportunities were very rare in the first half. The most dangerous attempt was by Al Gharafa’s Ahmed Alaaeldin in the 27th minute which was saved by Umm Salal goalkeeper Eissa Shaaban.
With neither side creating too many chances, there was no real danger on either goal and the first half ended without a breakthrough.
The rhythm in the second session was very much the same, with the teams seemingly desperate not to give away a crucial goal at any stage. Umm Salal’s resolve was broken in the 80th when Al Gharafa grabbed the all-important goal.
Umm Salal went on the attack in the hope of a late equaliser but, in spite of the pressure, Al Gharafa’s defence was too stubborn. They kept their tactics tight until the end of the game to sail through to Tuesday’s final at the Qatar SC Stadium.
