QNB Stars League Week 15 — Al Khor 1 Al Gharafa 2

Al Gharafa got back to winning ways with a 2-1 victory over hosts Al Khor in Week 15 of the QNB Stars League on Saturday.

Wesley Sneijder (23rd) and Muad Hassan (33rd) scored for Al Gharafa. Al Khor’s reply came through Madson in the 83rd.

Al Gharafa moved to 20 points, while Al Khor remained on 14.

It was Al Gharafa’s fifth victory. The Cheetahs, who defeated Al Ahli and Umm Salal before suffering a big loss to Al Sadd in the last round, thus got back to winning ways.

Al Gharafa called the shots in the first half and were rewarded by two goals. Sneijder converted a free-kick with clinical precision after it was awarded when Al Khor goalkeeper Khalifa Aboobacker handled the ball outside the box while attempting to thwart Iranian striker Mehdi Taremi.

Muad’s goal came off a solo effort after he received a long pass from his own defence.

After Al Khor had a penalty appeal turned down by referee Mohammed Al Shammari, their best chance came in the 43rd, but Madson’s shot was blocked by rival goalkeeper Qassim Burhan and defender Soroush Hossein skied the rebound.

Al Khor came back from the breather as a charged-up lot. Madson continued to fight like a one-man army, while Soroush kept moving forward whenever they had the ball.

Madson, Soroush and Ariel Thierry all had their chances as Al Khor had more of the possession and Qasim was kept busy. Finally, the ever-reliable Madson found the target.

Al Khor almost equalised in the first of four-minute stoppage time, but for Qassim’s full-length dive that kept out Helal Mohammed’s powerful shot.
